Every film has a story that happens behind the camera, and eddies trailer park behind the scenes moments are no different. What started as an idea written by Tom Scott eventually turned into a full production involving friends, family, local businesses, and community members who all played a part in bringing the story to life.
Tom’s vision for Eddie’s Trailer Park began years ago, inspired by his desire to create films with his daughter, Shannon Scott. Starting with just an idea and a computer, he slowly typed his thoughts one letter at a time, building the script piece by piece until it was ready.
But a script alone isn’t enough. You need a cast and crew to bring it to life, and with no budget, that’s a real challenge. That’s when Shannon stepped in, taking action by reaching out to fellow filmmaker Derek Price and posting casting calls on local Tennessee casting sites to find the talented actors who would make the film a reality.
Independent filmmaking is rarely a perfectly smooth process (especially in an independent project). In fact, I would be shocked if I heard any production went perfectly as planned…
But unlike major studio productions with large crews and endless resources, projects like this rely heavily on creativity, teamwork, and sometimes a little improvisation. That was certainly the case with Eddie’s Trailer Park.
From building props to finding last-minute cast members, the production became a shared experience for everyone involved. What began as a simple idea slowly grew into something bigger than anyone expected, which was a film made by a community working together.

When Plans Don’t Go as Planned
What can go wrong, will go wrong. I’m sure you heard this saying before. It’s an extremely common saying in the industry, and something that all filmmakers learn quickly.
Plans rarely go as planned. Schedules change, weather shifts, actors become unavailable, and sometimes entire scenes have to be reworked or ditched on the spot.
Eddies trailer park behind the scenes, had plenty of these moments. Like when one of our main character’s “Mark” couldn’t make it back to set after the first day and we had to think fast on how to fix the problem…

So, our stand-in and fellow actor Alberto Luis “dropped dead” behind the rocket and we continued to film. Jeff Miller is acting out the scene while Alberto gets some sun!
Equipment setups also took longer than expected at times, but rather than slowing the project down, these challenges often brought the cast and crew closer together.
Independent filmmaking requires flexibility, and the team working on this film proved that when something didn’t go according to plan, they were more than capable of adapting.
Looking back, some of the unexpected moments that happened during production ended up shaping the final film in ways no one could have predicted.
Last-Minute Heroes
One of the most surprising and inspiring parts of the production was the number of people who stepped in to help when they were needed most.
Several cast members joined the project on very short notice. Some had little or no acting experience, yet they embraced the opportunity and helped bring the story together in ways that felt completely natural on screen.
In independent filmmaking, moments like these are incredibly valuable. When people are willing to jump in and help without hesitation, it creates an environment where everyone feels like they’re contributing to something meaningful.
Many of those last-minute additions ended up delivering memorable performances that helped shape the film’s personality and humor too. It also is an amazing feeling to see someone step outside of their comfort zone to do something so vulnerable like acting! It takes a lot of guts, and I admire that.
Their willingness to step in and give their time is something the production team will always be grateful for!
Eddie’s Trailer Park Filming Locations That Made It Real
Another major part of bringing Eddie’s Trailer Park to life was the support from local businesses and community members who allowed the production to film at their locations.
Filming on real locations adds authenticity that can be difficult to recreate on a studio set. Every place has its own character, and those details naturally find their way onto the screen.
Several scenes in the film were shot at businesses owned by people who were more than happy to support the project like Mike from Mike’s Cycle & Marine.
By opening his doors and allowing the crew to film, he helped make the world of Eddie’s Trailer Park feel more real and cinematic. Adding value to the entire production.
These locations became more than just backgrounds. They became part of the story itself.
Independent Film Production Story
Props, Creativity, and DIY Filmmaking
Independent films often rely on creativity over big budgets, which means even props require careful thought and execution. Luckily for us, we had a prop master on our side!
Many of the props in Eddie’s Trailer Park were created specifically for the production. Tom Scott not only wrote the script and played Roger, but he also built key props like the rocket seen in the photo with him and his brother Joe Scott (who also played Joe in the film).
Instead of buying expensive items or renting elaborate set pieces, Tom used what he had to craft what was needed to move the story forward. Tom even designed a mock building to blow up (safely, of course.)
Did we almost set the grass on fire? Almost, but our firefighting skills were on point that day. Was it worth it? Absolutely! Don’t try that at home kids!
This hands-on approach added a personal touch to the project that truly can’t be beat.
Every prop, set detail, and visual element contributed to the film’s quirky personality. Sometimes, the most memorable parts of a movie come from these small details. The elements that might not stand out immediately but create the overall atmosphere of the story.
Tom is extremely talented and it’s incredible to see everything he built in the film. Did I mention that he also restored the Hot Rod in the film and got it running again.

Making of Eddie’s Trailer Park & It’s Energy on Set
One of the most important things about being on set it the energy. Tensions are high and many people have a lot of jobs, especially in independent film. Despite the challenges that come with any production, the cast and crew managed to keep things fun and lighthearted throughout the process.
During the making of Eddie’s Trailer Park, there were plenty of moments between takes, where there were plenty of laughs, conversations, and moments where everyone could step back and appreciate what they were creating together.
Actors supported each other while forgetting their lines. Crew members stepped in to help wherever they were needed. Even people who had never worked on a film before quickly became part of the team.
